Market Vibes and Lake Views: A Filmmaker's Adventure

Updated: Oct 23, 2024

The shoot almost didn’t happen because we were waiting on a filming permit from the city of Holland. We had everything set up to film at their well-known farmers market, but you know how permits can be—always a last-minute dance. The official approval didn’t come through until 3 p.m. on Friday. It was close, but once we got the green light, it was go time.

Next stop: Holland, Michigan.

Normally, it’s a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Chicago, but Friday traffic? Forget it. I wasn’t about to get stuck in that grind. So, I chilled, grabbed dinner with the family, then packed the car—cameras, lenses, lights, the essentials—and finally hit the road. Rolled into Holland late, got a place to crash, and was up with the sun the next day.

The market was buzzing.

We were set up at a booth with Dan and Mega from Mi Great Lakes Fish Co., selling fresh fish straight from the Great Lakes. Let me just say, these two crushed it. Their setup was flawless, the booth was always hopping, and it made for some epic shots. We got everything we needed: the hustle of the market, the product, and even nailed eight solid testimonials from locals. Clean, smooth, and done.

After wrapping up in Holland,

I packed the gear and headed toward St. Ignace for day two. The plan? Capture some scenic shots of the Mackinac Bridge, the lake, and the town. The weather played nice, and everything came together beautifully.

Big shoutout to BuilderGrowth.io and Ochre and Pine Studio for collaborating on this project and making it all happen. And a special thanks to Dan and Mega at Mi Great Lakes Fish Co. for being such legends during the shoot.

If you’re a small business or crew looking to tell your story, let’s connect.

Whether it’s a busy farmers market or something a little more off the beaten path, I’m here to help bring your vision to life, no stress.
